Massage is becoming an increasingly recognised area in good horse management, suitable for any type of horse- from those competing at the highest level to the family pony. Benefits include, stimulating the circulation, increased range of movement, early detection and recovery of injuries and provides a positive bonding experience between you and your horse.
Many people think that it is beyond their means to train as Equine Sports Massage Therapists but a new course, Equissage Europe, developed in the USA by the renowned Mary Schreiber, is aimed not only at those wishing to work professionally, but for those wishing to learn for the benefit of their own animals.
Students learn anatomy, physiology ,the Equissage Massage Sequence, do’s and don’ts of massage, saddle fitting and much more in an intensive 50 hour theoretical and practical 5 day course.
Course instructor, Helen Woolley, a Chartered Physiotherapist says “ students are often daunted initially by the amount they have to learn in a short time but we always have fun and everyone goes away really excited by the week. Comments such as “I wish I had known this years ago” are very common.”
